BANAGLADESH ACHIEVEMENTS SINCE INDEPENDENCE – A LOOK BACK

                                                                                                                                                      Nilkontho  Bangladesh achieved independence forty years back through nine months freedom of war. Unlike many nations of the world we got our independence in relatively shorter period of time. Since independence country made significant progress in all fields of development. Time has come to take an inventory of achievements so far made. It may be argued that country did not progress as it is expected to progress in this forty years time. But, however, despite lot of struggles and hard time country went through and with global economic recession, country is moving in right direction. Need less to say that we have enormous achievements since independence as a nation.  If a physical stock is to be taken what we have achieved during last 40 years we find a very long list of achievements. In different fields like economy, education, communication, heath care service, information technology, science and agriculture, sanitation, culture, sports etc country made remarkable progress and is recognized regionally and globally. We received different global and regional awards for making outstanding development in deferent sectors. Now people of our country are representing Bangladesh all most in all part of the world as sovereign national. Bangladesh now is second largest troops contributing nation in United Nations, taking global leadership in raising voice against global warming, it is now a cricket test playing nation, won the peak of Mount Everest, Bangladeshi national won Noble prize are few examples of many such prestigious achievements.  All the indices are making steady up-ward movement with occasional set back for short period of time. Now many nations brand Bangladesh with its ready made garments similar to USA with IT products, Germany with Machineries, France with Fragrance, Italy with Leather and Leather made products etc. Bangladesh is now considered as one of the most potential countries in the region instead of its earlier branding ‘bottomless basket’.  One thing is very encouraging is the level of progress Bangladesh made in education sector particularly.  Earlier students of our country needed to move to kolkata for only to have even secondary education what to talk about tertiary/university education. There were hardly any graduate in entire sub-division or thana area. Civil servants, doctors, engineers, defense officers, business persons, lawyers were very scarce. The economy of this region used to be centered within only 24 families (Chobbish paribar).  Now the overall state is much different. People are now enjoying much economic freedom, freedom of expression better than ever before. Students are now going to different private and pubic universities to have higher education in all fields even from their village home. Developments are now taking place in all around the country with priority and as part of capacity building. Now our own brothers/cousins/sisters are holding different important posts/positions, where from they are relentlessly trying to deliver. Continued efforts are being made to provide enabling and conducive environment for all stakeholders of the society. People are now talking about good governance; private, public and economic. We hope to have sustainable development in coming days with a participatory role from all people of the country.
